Fire services were busy with Guy Fawkes celebrations last night.
South Canterbury fire service assistant area manager Steve Greenyer said the calls started coming in about 8pm.
Three fires were reported about the same time: a vegetation fire at Adair Settlement Rd at 8pm, a rubbish fire on Orbell St at 8.15 and a vegetation fire on Beaconsfield Rd Timaru about 8.20.
Crews were called out to two tussock fires at Caroline Bay near the car park on Virtue Ave at 9.25 and 11.40. A grass fire was reported at South St at 10.15.
A blaze was reported near Orari Station Rd at 10.15. Crews from Geraldine, Temuka and Pleasant Point attended the farm shed fire.
At 6.30am the Washdyke crew was called to a grass fire on Mahoneys Hill Rd.
Mr Greenyer said fire safety staff were investigating the Orari, Adair Settlement, and Beaconsfield fires this morning.None of them were suspicious at this time.
The rest were fireworks related, he said.
Meanwhile, the South Canterbury District Health Board reported a child had been taken to hospital with a burn to the hand. The patient was not admitted. No other injuries were reported.
